Hi, I’m Jack.
I design and build secure, scalable applications while solving complex technical problems across software, systems, and cybersecurity.

The story behind the work
A look into the mindset, motivation, and challenges behind my work.
Hello, my name is Jack Gerber. I'm a recent BCIT CST graduate, and I'm eager to be in the security and tech industry. Since a young age, I’ve always loved problem solving and understanding how things work. I originally got into development and spent a lot of time experimenting with game projects, websites, and anything that let me build something cool. As I learned more about cybersecurity and saw how real attacks impact people and businesses, my focus shifted. I became driven to protect systems and make the internet a safer place. The exciting mix of investigation, defense, and technical challenges truly motivate me.
Before getting into tech, I spent several years working in the culinary industry. It was a demanding environment, but it taught me to stay organized, work under pressure, and communicate clearly with the people around me. When COVID paused my plans to attend culinary school, I used that time to explore other interests and quickly found myself back in front of a computer writing code. I enrolled at BCIT and gained strong experience with software engineering fundamentals. I learned about secure coding, Linux, operating systems, networking, authentication, and a variety of SQL databases. I was especially interested in full stack development and hands-on cybersecurity. These skills, combined with my work ethic and curiosity, are what I bring into every project and team.
Challenges that shaped how I think
A Misogi is a challenge meant to push you past your comfort zone and capabilities. It comes from an old Japanese purification ritual and was modernized into a simple idea: once a year, choose something so difficult that your chance of success is only about 50%. My Misogi list started in 2023 as a way to intentionally push myself, learn how I handle difficult situations, and build the kind of mindset I now bring into my work.
Persistence over comfort
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2024 was one of the most meaningful challenges of my life. I spent months training for the ascent and was the youngest person in my group by more than twelve years. The physical preparation helped, but nothing compared to the mental challenge of pushing through fatigue, altitude, and long days on the mountain. The experience showed me that the limits I believed I had were nowhere close to my actual capabilities.
I learned that persistence, focus, and steady effort can carry you much farther than you think. That lesson now shapes how I approach hard technical problems, long projects, and unfamiliar situations.
Calm under pressure
Skydiving from more than ten thousand feet in 2025 required far less preparation than Kilimanjaro, but it pushed me in a completely different way. Instead of testing my persistence and mental fortitude, it tested my ability to stay calm in an uncomfortable and high-pressure moment. Stepping out of that plane forced me to trust the process, control my mind, and think clearly when everything in me wanted to tense up.
The experience reminded me that no matter how intense a situation feels, there is always a smart, steady option forward. I bring that mindset into my work every day: stay composed, stay focused, and solve the problem in front of me.
Let’s build something meaningful.
I’m looking for opportunities in tech where I can contribute by building, analyzing, and solving real problems. Whether it’s creating new systems, improving existing ones, or enhancing your online presence, I’d be happy to connect.
